“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: that hair!
Caelan: doing countless laps around the trampoline.

Well, my Christmas shopping just got a lot easier! Why we don't already have a trampoline is beyond me.

Missing Daddy

Upon arrival to the lake, Caelan cried that he missed his daddy, that he wanted him to come home. So, i wrapped him and Saxon in a wooly blanket and we sat, then we spoke about the places daddy used to take us when he was home. It was nice to talk about something other the missing him, because it's all we've been doing since he left.. The lake was calm and still, and so was my mind & my heart, for the first time this week. Three months better fly past, because missing the one you love is so hard.

Our road trip to Melbourne

In July we set out from our quiet coastal town for the busy city of Melbourne to celebrate our friends engagement party. We planned for a 9 hour drive, stopping occasionally to stretch our legs and feed our tummies, but that plan slowly turned into a 12 hour car trip….and i just happened to forgot the Frozen DVD!

We stayed in the Novotel on Collins St, right in the heart of Melbourne. We did the tourist thing, Cay and I went on the City Circle Tram, but within 5 minutes he fell asleep on my lap…but it was a nice, quiet (bumpy, squishy) ride around the city for me. We scoped out the shopping but as much as i would have loved to splurge on clothing i spent a good amount at Aēsop and my skin loves me for it. This store on Flinders Lane was architecturally designed from industrial-grade cardboard and it looked amazing - it's a must see if you visit Melbourne.

The lane ways and hideaway cafes were so laid-back and funky. Our favourite coffee spot was Degraves Lane & the best restaurant that we stumbled upon was The Meat & Wine co - amazing food!

On our way home we stopped in at Brighton Beach. These beach huts have been on my bucket list since i was little so i was incredibly happy. We couldn't leave until Caelan tried to get past every lock on each hut..

So there ends our little holiday, and i'm ready to go back! Of course next time we'll fly.

Melbourne, you're one cool city.

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: and Tommy, snuggling on my bed.
Caelan: sloshing through the wet, thick sand and giggling as the cold water splashes against his legs.

This Winter weather has been beautiful. Perfect for morning cuddles with the boys in my bed, and also perfect for after pre-school trips to the harbour. The water has been lovely, the sun warm and inviting and thankfully the rain has stayed away for the most part. We are living the dream here on the South Coast. I'm so grateful for where we live.

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: Laughing and giggling as he steps off the pathway, and into the bush.
Caelan: Actually letting me take his photo! Without any bribing!!

I'm really happy with this week's portraits. It's often the unexpected moments that become my favourite images. Although Caelan's chubby cheeks are rosy red with Slapped Cheek 'Disease' - a virus that's kept him home from school the past week - i am still getting this portrait framed, because that smile is just so beautiful :)
