“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: Oh my heart.. That dimple and those fangs get me every time.
Caelan: He claimed to be king of the flowers.

I have always wanted to make a flower crown, but with two boys i don't get to make many pretty things. So it got me thinking...why do we genderize flowers? They are a lovely part of nature, we see them and smell them in the air we breathe all the time.

So i thought, why not just make my son's a flower crown!? Caelan loves to pick flowers, he thinks they smell delightful, and it'll be a fun project for us. We have had all of these lovely frangipanis sitting under our tree lately so i put them to use. Caelan picked the leaves and helped with the flowers. I quickly strung them together and voila! We had a flower crown :)

As you can see, it was a big hit for my boys. They loved it!

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: Sound asleep with our new addition, Tommy.
Caelan: Wet, salty hair and a 'milka shaker' make a great combo.

This week has been one of the hottest this summer so we mostly stayed inside sheltered from the heat. We did however do a spontaneous day trip to adopt Tommy, our heavily overweight cat who has been such a delight for the boys.

life with Saxon - month nine

My Dearest Saxon,

Today you are 9 months old, and I say it every month how time flies! I can't even comprehend that it's your first birthday in just 3 months.

You have achieved many things this month. First of all we've reached our second goal - to breastfeed to 9 months. I have no doubts that we will have any problems now. It's all smooth sailing from here.

You are a little explorer, Saxon. Everything goes to your mouth first, and if you don't like it you will try it again anyways. You don't like the feel of grass just yet so you will walk on all fours, so that your knees won't touch the ground.

Your laugh is so joyful and a pleasure to hear. It's very rare, as you are quite content sitting and smiling at us. But when Caelan makes you laugh, oh! It is the sweetest sound on earth.

Sleeping longer then 4 hours at night hasn't been established yet, but mummy doesn't mind waking to you and nursing you back to sleep beside me. I still can't find a reason to put you in your own bed - i enjoy cuddling you too much.

I think about when you will someday read this series. I hope it will mean as much to you as it does to me. I sit here now with you, close to my heart. This is where you belong.

new beginnings

After over a year of sharing one blog for client work and personal work i have decided to cut the ties and create a new blog.

The adored: journal. Named after my three adored: Saxon, Caelan and husband Matthew. This space will be where i document all that i see. A place to keep my memories stored with written words. This will be my journal for all that i cherish.

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: The day before he had his hair trimmed. Charming me with his extremely good looks.
Caelan: There have been many accidents and much success during toilet training. I hope i can say he will be a full-time undie-wearer by the start of school term. *touch wood*

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Saxon: Enjoying the company of his father during our visit to the park.
Caelan: He jumped onto his Grandfather’s tractor with excitement & enthusiasm as he pretended to drive it.

The year 2014 has started with a bang and it has by far been the most enjoyable Summer yet. It might have a lot to do with having our own house and backyard now. The waterside the boys got for Christmas has been thrashed, and the jumping castle will send our electricity bill through the roof (thanks mum!) I am also loving the independence of where we live now – so close to the beach, plus my in-law’s are literally over the back fence which is great for us and the boys. They adore their Grandparents.
For the next 52 weeks I will be taking my boy’s portraits & posting them here, on the blog. This will be challenging for me, because following through with a project has never been my strong suit. Along with writing. But I plan to make the very most out of this project. It will give me the motivation to get out of the house more often away from my desk and more adventures for my little family. I am excited about this.

life with Saxon - month eight

Dear Saxon,
This year has been overwhelming & exciting for us. Yourself and Caelan have shown us so much happiness. The way you play together, chasing each other around our home. I love the way you giggle at Caelan, when he beats you to the other side of the room.
Christmas just came & went, and although you didn’t understand a thing of it you enjoyed the company of our family. Your Grandparents visited, you have grown so much since their last stay.
Not a lot has changed this month. You are exploring your surroundings much more, we know that the beach is not for you. You don’t like the feel of the sand – unless you are eating it.
You cut your two top teeth… Your eye teeth. You will be the cutest little vampire going.
You enjoy watching our puppy at the back door. Sometimes, if you are feeling extra adventurous you will stand against the safety gate & poke your arms through. Max loves this, he goes on to cover you in kisses.
Today is the last day of 2013, the year you were born. The year that has come and gone in a blink. Tonight we will watch the fireworks from our balcony & remember the highlights of the year, looking through our photo albums. Once again, i am thankful for these photos.
I love you my beautiful boy.
